The Alliance for Feminist Research on Violence Against Women and Children
(AFRA)
The Alliance for Feminist Research on Violence Against Women and Children (AFRA) Initiative provides a forum to forge and lead partnerships in feminist, innovative and in-depth research, policy analysis and social action to address violence against women.
AFRA's Aims and Objectives
To promote feminist perspectives on issues of violence against women and
children and to incorporate an international perspective with attention to broader
social, political and economic movements.
To bridge the divides of scholarship, research, policy, activism and practice
on issues relating to violence against women.
To lead scholarship, practice and policy development that is in the interests
of achieving human security for women and children.
To build alliances and networks to develop collaborative practice.
Strategies
Building Capacity
DVRC has progressed and invested in infrastructure, including premises, information
technology and organizational support systems to enable and facilitate any
strategies and activities of AFRA.
Scholarship
A Scholarship Program was developed in partnership with the Faculty of Business,
Queensland University of Technology to study the decline in violence against
women policy. The scholarship was awarded to M. Iyer in July 2002.
The research project will focus on feminist agency in the making of VAW policy
claims and advocacy.
