The paper was developed following an increasingly high amount of young women accessing BDVAS for support and the ongoing concerns raised by young women about how they are treated when attempting to navigate formal systems. The paper was written in order to generate some meaningful dialogue regarding the
significant barriers young women face when accessing the courts i.e. Domestic Violence Court of Family Court in an attempt to procure safety for themselves and often their children. BDVAS would like to acknowledge the young women that we have worked with whose stories and experiences have contributed to this paper.
